Guess who showed up at Isaac’s branch the following day? Katy ‘coincidently’ passed by his office, dropped in to see if everything was ‘okay’ since he hadn’t picked up her calls or texted back.

Surprise, surprise.

“Yes, I knew it. What did you say? What did you say?” I asked jumping up and down, eager to find out more.

It was Isaac’s lunch break, he’d come down as usual, and I’d stopped playing for a few minutes. I couldn’t concentrate anyway, I was dying to know if he’d had any contact whatsoever with Katy.

“I said I was okay, everything was fine. That I understood why she needed time, that she was right to say I neglected her. I was, in fact, neglecting myself, too. That was why I’d ask for days off next month. I said I’m planning a holiday. Taking some time to think, too.”

He learned fast, I was proud of him.

“Good man. What did she say? What did she do? How did she look? Details, please,” I pressed on, with an ‘I told you so’ look on my face.

Isaac smirked, a small but significant victory in his pocket. Katy had gone to see him, and he’d broken a habit, he’d resisted from contacting her for more than a day.

“She looked surprised, stunned, speechless, I’d say.”

Bang, woman down, we have a woman down.

“Could just be she’s genuinely sorry she turned me down, period. She might not have feelings for me anymore.”

“Maybe, but you don’t call or text your ex four times and then go looking for him if you don’t feel anything, anything at all. The next few days are crucial. We take one small step at a time, Isaac. Today is a good day,” I nodded and flashed the slyest of grins.

“Yes, Oh Queen of Plotting,” he teased.

Did you hear the man? I was officially nominated the Queen of Plotting, by Isaac himself.

I wasn’t going to contradict him. The man was right, I had a natural talent and a sharp, unmistakable instinct when it came to love, but as it happens it only applied to others. I was a big loser myself when it came to relationships.

“Now, we make our next move,” I told him, smiling mischievously. “We lower the level of wankerness, just enough to hit memory lane.”

“Memory lane?” Isaac smiled back. “And you are telling me there’s an actual scale of wankerness?” he mocked.

“Ha, ha,” I frowned and went on, as we made our way to a café, which from then on became our usual afternoon hangout.

“Find an excuse to message her. Something that reminds you of her, Isaac. What do you miss the most about her?” I asked, my heart in my throat because I wanted to know and sort of didn’t at the same time.

Isaac gave it a thought and then told me about when they were the happiest of couples when they’d taken a trip to Paris and they’d been so in love.

Paris, so romantic. And they were happy and in love, I thought. Ouch, ouch, ouch.
